Legend of the Phoenix and Dragon. The phoenix is a mythical bird which consumed itself by fire every 500 years and a new young phoenix sprang from its ashes. Legend has it that the phoenix lands on nothing but the greatest treasures. It is the highest-ranked bird in China and represents beauty, good luck, the Empress, female energy, and the southern direction. The dragon, a legendary reptilian monster, is deified in the Taoist religion and was the national emblem of the Chinese Empire. Among the Chinese people, the dragon is traditionally regarded as a symbol of creativity and good fortune, and represents the Emperor, male energy and the eastern direction. The combination of phoenix and dragon is similar to that of a yin/yang, symbolizing the union of opposites. Just like Naruto and Sasuke they are opposites making the clan balanced. Naruto is the phoenix while suseke is the dragon. They were perfect oppositions. His sand-blond hair against the other?s ebony black. His bright blue eyes against the other?s obsidian. His mischievous grin a gainst the other?s solemn countenance. Maybe that?s why Naruto paid so much attention to Uchiha Sasuke. He noticed his every action with watchful eye, and though every single thing about Sasuke made him mad (the way he was always so cool about everything, the way he constantly made Naruto look like an idiot, the Sakura-chan always talked about him), Naruto couldn?t deny a certain interest he?d developed in his enigmatic adversary.
